The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, France

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is an international foundation promoting the development of individuals and organisations through art, science, education, and charity, for a more equitable and sustainable society. The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation was established in 1956 by the will of Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, a philanthropist of Armenian origin who lived in Lisbon between 1942 and 1955, the year he died.

The Delegation in France is the European branch of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. In France, the Delegation develops activities around major themes in contemporary society, particularly in the fields of arts and culture, social arts and the social economy, the world of foundations, and the promotion of the Portuguese language.

These activities take shape through the co-production of exhibitions, a biannual call for projects for French, Belgian, Luxembourgish, Monegasque, and Swiss art institutions wishing to feature Portuguese or Portugal-based visual artists in their programming, the organization of meetings and discussions throughout the year, partnerships with civil society organizations, and the provision of a substantial Portuguese-language library.
